Maryam Lavaf was born in Iran, experiencing the Iran/Iraq war through the eyes of a child. Lavaf was affected by a little-recognized effect of war – a lack of quality art supplies. As a child, end pages of family books were a source of paper upon which to create artworks, for example. As an adult, Lavaf moved to the USA and continues to make art to this day.
She has an affinity for nature, as MANY artists do, however, blending that with the day-to-day affects of war results in an unusual artistic DNA.
