Carlos Pozo

Carlos Pozo creates work that he says appeals to engineers, accountants and other left-brained people (like me). Looking at the work, you might guess Pozo’s in graphic design. But he’s not; he’s an architect. Knowing this helps appreciate the work since it is essentially about structure and use of space.

Pozo has used 2-D & 3-D CAD programs professionally for over 20 years. Five years ago, he saw them as creative tools with more controls and options than traditional drawing. This excitement led to the creation of purely fictional compositions that were great. However, “just pressing the print button”, in his words, was not of interest to him – he wanted to apply a different print method. Coming across the process of silkscreening, he landed at Buring Bones Press. Immediately signing up there, Pozo became a student of Carlos Hernandez. Pozo, like anyone else I’ve talked to, has a high regard for Hernandez in his openness and willingness to help new printmakers learn their craft.

All the work Pozo creates now begins in the computer and ends as silkscreen prints on paper. Personally, I’m enamored with the high contrast, sharp, precise lines made (demonstrating EXACTING registration in the print process)!

Pozo is relatively new on the art scene which makes him a good buy opportunity (if you like the work, as always).
