Sojourn: Studio Residency Exhibition

The Sojourn Studio Residency is a relatively new program that provides selected artists with free studio space for 2 months and a $250 stipend. Sojourn then mounts an exhibit every 6 months to feature the 3 most recent artists. In an unusual twist, Sojourn doesn’t even take a commission on sales at the exhibit. The artist/administrators explained that the “Sojourn Network” is actually a church with some funds dedicated to supporting the Houston art scene. Artists can apply at anytime.

This exhibit featured the work of Stacy Kuropata, Ack! & Katie Mulholland, Audrey Omenson.

Kuropata is very interested in what is learned about human history through archeology. All her works are made with this in mind.

Ack! & Katie Mulholland worked together to create a series of work related to pizza. To which I say, “Sure! Why not?”. It’s unfortunate no pricing was available on these whimsical works, however.

Amenson works hard at creating imagery related to human connection. I’m excited to see where this brave artist is going. There’s a strong voice at work in these pieces that deserves attention.
