Redbud Gallery: Juan Aaron Castillo – “steambath-scopop”

The intimate space of Redbud Gallery (one room, 4 walls, one of which is all window) is a great setting for seeing his work from Juan Aaron Castillo. This is because Castillo’s work is light and airy with moments of intimacy.

These (unframed) works on paper have seemingly simple voices, whispering stories from the wall. But, as you move closer, you experience more through Castillo’s use of layers while maintaining a very light aesthetic.

In researching Castillo, I don’t come across much on-line to substantiate the price of these works. I saw his work recently at the Paper Cuts exhibit, however. Technically, they’re quite nice but may or may not be priced appropriately. You’ll have to judge that yourself.

This exhibit runs though October 26, at Redbud Gallery (303 East 11th St., 77008, 12:00-5:00, Wed. – Sun.).

  1. Wow.. Beautiful work. I love the muted colors, and they do have an intimate feel.. Like you’re looking into some kind of mystery. However, for the medium and sizes I do agree they’re a little on the high end in terms of price.

  2. Such a great show by an axing artist! I have been following Juan for many years and
I’m honestly DELIGHTED at the price point assigned to his works at Redbud! Frankly I think the larger works should command a teeny but more- but I’m happy to see the prices set as they are because I was able to purchase “Permitted Games” ; ) Thanks for covering this show! Lots more to come for Castillo! He’s the real deal! Xo
